Regardless of how many times it is entered into however many Divisions, the same image must always bear exactly the same title regardles of format (historical or
currently in use - digital, print, or slide). Also, an image entered into Creative may be titled differently from the original image(s) from which it was derived. provided it is clearly a
different image.
Different images must have different titles.
Furthermore:
-
Titles of images may not exceed 35 characters.
-
The characters may not include any of the following reserved characters: *,$,!,%,#,=,?.
-
Titles may not include file extensions such as .jpg or .jpeg (or any other camera capture filenames) or words such as “untitled” or “no title”.
-
This limitation of 35 characters includes any ‘qualifiers’ used for the maker’s convenience to distinguish images that would otherwise have the same
title.
-
Any qualifiers are limited in length to 5 characters.
-
The qualifiers Mono and BW may no longer be used in titles. Thus, for example 'Rain In Spain 45DGH BW' is not acceptable. However, images that have already
received an Award or an HM in Monochrome or Arranged Monochrome with the qualifier BW appended to the title may still be entered into Color or Arranged Color but with the qualifier
still attached to the title!
-
Apart from allowed qualifiers, titles must be composed of understandable words or common acronyms
-
Except in qualifiers, no digits are permitted in the title (use ‘Two Flowers’ rather than ‘2 Flowers’) unless the digits are a standard and integral
part of the object being described e.g., Boeing 747 or Heinz 57. Even in the latter case, titles may not start with digits.
-
No part of the maker's name may appear in the image.
-
The image title may not be added to the image, although phrases that appear naturally in the image may be used to form the title or part of the title
e.g., the number on the vest of a sports competitor or the name of a restaurant may be used in the title.
-
Titles may not consist solely of numbers.
-
Titles must only include characters from the English (Roman) alphabet with no special accents and no super- or subscripts. Except for the reserved characters
and other restrictions listed above, standard punctuation - such as apostrophes and commas - may be included.
Please note that filenames do not matter. Entrants can name their files whatever they wish. S4C assigns its own internal filenames.
